Purnea, June 14: Kaniz Raza was today elected the town’s mayor unopposed. All the 46 councillors voted in her favour. Santosh Kumar Yadav was elected her deputy.
The elections for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor were held at the auditorium of the Purnea collectorate.
Raza, the councillor of ward number 32, took oath before the district magistrate-cum-returning officer, N. Saravana Kumar.
Unlike Raza, Yadav had four challengers. He was elected deputy mayor after getting 28 defeating votes.
