Durga Puja organisers can look forward to uninterrupted power supply this festive season, if the Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Limited’s helms list of priorities is any indication.

Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (Pesu), the agency responsible for power distribution work in the state capital, has started maintenance work accordingly.

The pandals for Durga Puja revellers would open on October 1 this year.

“There would be no problem for the residents and the puja pandals as we would buy additional power to meet the growing demand during Durga Puja. The energy department will soon issue a notification in which puja committees would be asked to apply for separate power connection detailing how much extra power they would require and for how many days,” said H.R. Pandey, the BSPHCL deputy general manager (public relations).

He added: “The puja committees have to make advance payment according to the estimated power consumption they apply for. Though the power consumption increases during Durga Puja, the government offices remain closed. Hence, it becomes easier for us to provide adequate power to the residents.”

Pesu, on the other hand, has started maintenance work of cables, separators and transformers at several places to prevent any major breakdown during the puja. In case of any glitch, Pesu would be ready to restore or rectify the supply within minimum time through round-the-clock vigilance.

Pesu general manager Rajiv Amit told The Telegraph: “We have started identifying places where there could be a need to repair old and damaged cables. Broken electrical poles and burnt transformers are being replaced, low-tension wires are being fixed with separators and branches of trees that create obstacle for wires, are being pruned.”

Amit also warned the puja committees to take proper connection to illuminate their pandals, else strict action would be taken for power theft.

Puja committees and residents expressed happiness over the early preparations by BSPHCL and Pesu.
