Patna, July 8: A senior professor at BN College under Patna University received two phone calls on his cellphone on Thursday night, threatening him of dire consequences.

D.N. Sinha, the superintendent of the college hostel as well as of the Saidpur Hostel, got the first call around 9.04pm.

The first call came from 0612-6994398, a landline number, the police said. The next call came 15 minutes later, from 0612-6954225. In both the calls, Sinha was abused and told he would be shot if he called the police.

An FIR was lodged today at the Pirbhore police station against anonymous criminals.

According to sources, at 8pm yesterday, two groups of students belonging to BN College Hostel, clashed on the premises for some reason and Sinha informed the police about the conflict.

“The police arrived on the hostel premises after the information and the two groups were called in. Though no arrests were made, Sinha was asked to sit with the students and make them understand the situation so that they could reach a compromise. Sinha talked to the students and a mutual settlement was reached upon,” an officer at the Pirbhore police station said. The two threat calls were made on the evening of the same day.

After repeated calls to Sinha went unanswered, M.N. Sinha, the acting principal of BN College said the police had assured to look into the matter and make necessary arrests.

“Yes, there was a scuffle between two groups of students last evening. The caller said Sinha had not done the right thing by dragging the police into hostel matters. He was asked not to bring in the police on the hostel premises in future or else he would face dire consequences and will be gunned down. The callers abused him as well,” the acting principal said.

He added that some boarders, who continue to stay in the hostels even though they have completed their studies, create problems.

“It is difficult to remove them as they turn violent. The college needs the help of the police to evict them from the hostel. The college cannot do it. They have been asked to leave several times. The threat can also be related to the same. These students passed out of the college long back but are still living in the hostel,” M.N. Sinha said.

The police said the matter is being investigated.

“The police are trying to know as to who made the call. The students might have asked some friends call up the professor. The police are probing the matter at the moment. Things will get clear soon and the culprits will be nabbed,” the police officer said.
