The district magistrate of Muzaffarpur has ordered a probe to identify the policemen deployed at the court lock-up after liquor bottles were found on Monday evening.

Two groups of undertrials got into a fight at the district court lock-up on Monday evening. At least six prisoners were injured in the scuffle after which a raid team comprising sub-divisional officer (east) Sunil Kumar and deputy superintendent of police (DSP), city, Upendra Kumar searched the lock-up.

“The team found 50 bags with liquor bottles, tobacco pouches and cigarettes in the wards where the undertrials are kept before they are produced in court. The injured undertrials have been admitted to Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital,” said Khudiram Bose Central Jail superintendent Jitendra Kumar.

Anupam Kumar, the Muzaffarpur district magistrate, ordered Sunil Kumar on Monday to take action against police officers found facilitating the undertrials with prohibited items when they are brought to court. Jitendra claimed the undertrials are frisked every time they are taken to court and back.

Anupam has also asked the senior superintendent of police to revamp the deployment of cops at the court lock-up.
