Patna: The Centre has been informed that chief minister Nitish Kumar is likely to declare Bihar a fully electrified state on December 27, a highly placed source in the state government closely associated with the rural electrification work has told The Telegraph.

The tentative date was arrived at after a review meeting on December 5 in which the remaining work related to rural electrification was assessed and the implementation time-frame discussed threadbare.

Earlier, the state government had promised to complete the work by December 31 this year.

Special emphasis is being laid on timely completion of work where power has to be provided through solar energy as providing power through grids is not possible because of the location of these areas. These 183 villages are spread across Kaimur, West Champaran, Supaul, Rohtas, Bhagalpur, Munger, Nawada, Jamui, Banka, Katihar and Samastipur districts.
