Officer dies

Darbhanga: A police sub-inspector from Gujarat, here to check security arrangements for BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s visit, died of a heart attack at Janaki Hotel on Wednesday. Modi is to address an election rally in Darbhanga on Thursday. The deceased police officer, Ramesh Bhai Chaudhary, was part of the bomb detection squad.

Cong potshot

Patna: The Congress on Wednesday accused BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi of telling lies. The party’s media in-charge, Prem Chandra Mishra, issued a statement where he highlighted the UPA government’s achievements.

Lalu vision

Siwan: RJD leader Lalu Prasad claimed the Congress-RJD combine would sweep the polls in Bihar. He was addressing a rally on Wednesday after RJD candidate from Siwan, former MP and jailed RJD leader Mohammad Shahabudin’s wife Heena Shahab, filed her nomination. Heena had contested the seat in 2009 but lost to Independent candidate Omprakash Yadav, now contesting on a BJP ticket.

BJP barb

Patna: Senior BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav on Wednesday said Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar were trying to divert voters’ attention by raising irrelevant issues at a time when country was facing problems on several fronts.

PM concern

Patna: Food and consumer protection minister and JD(U) leader Shyam Rajak on Wednesday claimed international experts were apprehensive about the country’s democratic fabric should Narendra Modi become prime minister.

Rebel patrol

Muzaffarpur : Long-range patrolling has been launched in rebel-hit pockets of the district ahead of the elections in Muzaffarpur and Vaishali constituencies on May 7 and May 12.

The district election officer-cum-district magistrate (DM), Anupam Kumar, said he had asked senior superintendent of police Ranjit Kumar Mishra, to take steps to avert possible attacks by rebels. “We would ensure that Maoists do not enter villages,” said Anupam. Long-range patrolling is conducted by small, heavily armed reconnaissance teams, which patrol deep in enemy-held territory.
