Patna: The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has ordered an investigation into dumping of "thank you" letters to consumers who have given up LPG subsidy in Rohtas district, based on the report published in The Telegraph last Sunday.

The letters bearing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's signature were found scattered on a road adjacent to LPG distributor Vandana Enterprises on Subhash Road at Dehri-on-Sone, the sub-divisional headquarters of Rohtas district, around 165 km south-west of Patna.

Two officials of the Union ministry of petroleum and gas, Rajesh Kumar and K. Sharma, visited Dehri-on-Sone on Tuesday. They were assigned the probe on the directive of Nripendra Misra, principal secretary to the Prime Minister. The officials, posted with the ministry's special cell, met Rohtas district magistrate (DM) Animesh Kumar Parashar.

Authoritative sources said the ministry team expressed strong displeasure over disregard to the Prime Minister's letters.

Vandana Mishra, the owner of Vandana Enterprises, told the officials she had been framed by rival agencies. Vandana Enterprises, which caters to consumers of Subhash Nagar, Pakki Bigha and Tarachandi in a radius of about 15 km, was opened in 2007. It had been allotted to an army jawan's widow.

"It seems to be part of a deep-rooted conspiracy to defame me and my agency," Vandana is learnt to have told the ministry officials. "We have honoured the consumers and provided them the letters in the past. There is no question of showing disregard to the PM's letter. We are trying to find out who are behind the episode to malign my image."

Earlier, taking a cognisance of the report published in The Telegraph, DM Parashar had constituted a probe team. "We will submit a detailed report to the district magistrate at the earliest so that the responsibility can be fixed for the lapses on the part of the gas agency," said Dehri-on-Sone sub-divisional officer Pankaj Patel, who is heading the district administration team.
