Patna, Feb. 23: Four persons, including a student of Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), were arrested today for allegedly running a racket of dummy writers.
The PMCH student, Rajiv Kumar, used to take money from candidates appearing for Staff Selection Commission, Haryana, examinations and make arrangements for dummy writers to ensure they could qualify.
Besides Rajiv, a second year student of PMCH, his brother, Subodh Kumar, was also arrested. Subodh had done a course in radiology in All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
Acting on a tip-off, the police also arrested Billo Ram and Ishwar, both residents of Haryana.
Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Alok Kumar said Rs 1.06 lakh, 13 admit cards of Staff Selection Commission, Haryana, exam for the post of conductor were recovered.
Admit cards and candidate details of several other recruitment tests to be conducted in Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh and other places were also seized from the arrested persons.
“Details of as many as 10 candidates, who are aspirants for Uttar Pradesh Armed Police Force examinations, were found. Twenty-eight forms and admit cards of competitive examinations for positions in high courts of Punjab and Haryana and others have been recovered from them,” Kumar said.
“We received a tip-off about the gang. Rajiv and his brother, both residents of Madhepura, were arrested near the Law College area today,” the SSP said.
He said: “Forms and cash, besides six mobile phones, three SIM cards, two ATM cards and a motorbike were recovered from them.”
“These people have got a list of people who sit in the examination on behalf of the candidates and write the papers. They are being interrogated at the moment for more information. For the particular Staff Selection Commission (Haryana) examination for the post of conductor, which is scheduled to be held on February 27, they were charging each candidate Rs 1.25 lakh for providing them with dummy writers,” the SSP said.
The police said the gang members could be having their connections in many other states as well and the police were trying to get the details.
“This could be a big ra- cket. The interrogations are continuing and more arrests will be made soon. The picture of the entire case will get clearer then. The police are working on the case,” the officer added.
