An FIR was lodged on Wednesday night against a JD(U) MP, his wife and other government officials on charges of purchasing property illegally.

According to the police, Jamui MP Bhudeo Choudhry had purchased landed property around eight years back illegally in the name of his wife, Indrani Choudhary. Over 50 police personnel who allegedly helped the leader have also been made accused in the FIR.

The complaint was lodged by one Parmanand Sharma. The 16-page FIR registered with Mojahidpur police station in Bhagalpur makes Choudhry and his wife as the main accused, along with Subir Ranjan, deputy commissioner of land revenue, Bhagalpur, Navin Bhusan, circle officer, Bhagalpur, Sanjiv Kumar circle inspector, Jagdishpur. Bhola Mandal, a resident of Tatarpur, 15 to 20 other people and 50 to 60 police personnel, too, have been named in the FIR.

According to the complaint, in 2006, Choudhry first managed to illegally purchase a landed property of more than 4.5 cottahs of a widow at Kajichak and then captured it forcefully with the help of local officials and police.

Late Daya Devi, Parmanand’s grandmother, was the owner of the property. Daya Devi expired in 2008. The plot’s present value is pegged at a minimum of Rs 1.5 crore.

On January 7, Sharma lodged the complaint in the court of the Bhagalpur chief judicial magistrate, which had ordered the police to register the FIR.

The FIR was finally registered on Wednesday evening after a reminder from the court.

Shatrughan Prasad, a sub-inspector-rank officer, said the FIR was registered after permission from the Bhagalpur senior superintendent of police.
