Favourite sport: Swimming
I started to swim when I was five or six months. My coach was my father Prabhakar Nandan Prasad. I play a number of other sports such as tennis, squash and cricket. But when I swim, I am in a different world. I feel no hesitation or tension. The water makes me feel cool: it clears my head. I have swum not only in pools but also in the sea, when I took part in the National Triathlon Tournament in Chennai. For those who don’t know how to swim, I have only one thing to say: If they try out this sport, they will find it to be a life-changing experience.

Favourite sport: Soccer
I have been trying to bend it like Beckham since Class IV. Over the years, the game has become not only a pastime but also a passion, a dream for me. I am training to be a professional footballer and dream of playing for Manchester United. The English club is the best in the world with a large fan following, including many sportsmen. Indian cricket captain M.S. Dhoni is also a fan of Man U. I love this sport, as it is full of surprises. It is true that the sport is in a desperate state in India but I believe the condition will improve, as it is very popular.

Favourite sport: Throwball
Throwball is my favourite sport as it rejuvenates my mind and body. I have been playing this game for a year. I like it because it is a team sport. An individual has to be disciplined to perform well in this sport. Like other sports, this one, too, helps a person to broaden his or her horizon. Recently, Miller High School in the city organised a throwball competition. My school emerged the runner-up, and I was the vice-captain.

Favourite sport: Squash

Squash — a high-speed racquet sport — is my favourite. I am so devoted to the sport that even during my board examination I used to play for at least an hour everyday. Earlier, squash was just a hobby for me. But now that I am a state-level champion, it is also a passion for me. Squash is a very healthy sport. If you practise for an hour, it provides excellent cardio-vascular exercise.

Snigdha Singh

Class XI
St Joseph’s Convent High School
Favourite sport: Karate

Words cannot express my passion for karate. I love it so much because it not only provides physical and mental stimulation like other sports but also teaches its practitioners self-defence. Many people find it strange that I have taken up the sport though I am a girl. For me, however, the purpose of karate is clear: it teaches me not only to fight but also discipline. It is of utmost importance for the practitioners of this sport. My passion for karate increased manifold after I won prizes in both kumite and kata — the two forms of karate — at a state-level tournament.
