Kilkari Bihar Bal Bhavan will organise a one-of-its-kind Folk Dance Olympiad, a common platform where children will showcase the country’s different folk forms, this year-end.

From Maharashtra’s Lavani to Bihar’s Jhijhiya, the Olympiad will present it all on December 28.

The winning group would be awarded mementos, said Kilkari programme officer Anita Thakur.

Kilkari Bihar Bal Bhavan director Jyoti Parihar said: “We have sent out invitations to all the Bal Bhavans in the country. So far, 12 Bal Bhavans, including those in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Odisha, have confirmed their participation. Our aim is to give the students a common platform where they can share their culture and knowledge of folk dance with each other. It would be nice to see students from the different states present folk dances in their traditional costumes.”

She added: “Such programmes need to be organised as these would help spread culture.”

A day before the Olympiad, a rally would also be taken out where students from the different Bal Bhavans would wear their traditional costumes.

Kilkari, a wing of the state education department, will foot the travel and lodging expenses of the visitors.
