Former Sri Lankan cricket captain Sanath Jayasuriya hands over an award to former Indian cricketer Syed Saba Karim for excellence in sports in Patna on Wednesday. The swashbuckling southpaw was also the chief guest at the award ceremony organised by the Dr Dayal Foundation to recognise the contribution of people in their respective fields. The Dr Rameshwar Dayal lifetime achievement award was given to Dr Gopal Prasad Singh, the award for excellence in law to Birendra Kumar Sinha, the excellence in medicine award to Dr Amulya Singh, the award for excellence in sports coaching to Devki Nandan, Rajesh Verma was awarded for excellence in sports administration, while the award for excellence in social work was given to Akhouri B Prasad. The Dr Dayal Foundation works in several social fields, including distribution of cricket kits, blankets, organising training programmes and child heart surgeries.
