Patna, Aug. 16: Central University of Bihar today organised an orientation programme for the 2012-14 batch of master’s degree students where they were briefed about its plan for PhD programme.

Around 350 freshers of various master’s degree programmes, including bioinformatics, biotechnology, mathematics and statistics among others, attended the talks.

Central University vice-chancellor Janak Pandey told the newcomers: “The controversy regarding Central University of Bihar has been sorted out on a positive note. According to the revised plan, two central universities would be developed instead of one. While one Central University of Bihar would be developed in Motihari, the other would be based in Gaya.”

About the university’s future plan, Pandey said: “We will start an integrated programme of MPhil-PhD in selective disciplines soon. Students will also be given an option to apply for scholarship in MPhil and PhD courses. Scholarship of Rs 5,000 and Rs 8,000 would be given away to eligible MPhil and PhD students, respectively. We would also motivate students for research and we have made a detailed programme for this,” added Pandey.

Prashant, an assistant professor of department of environmental sciences, told students about the salient features of the academic programmes, including semester system, choice-based credit system, course evaluation among others.

“Seventy-five per cent attendance would be required for every student to apply in the semester exam,” he emphasized. said.
