Three men's constant harassment allegedly drove a mother of two children to attempt suicide on Sunday.

The woman is battling for her life at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMCH), while the police are yet to arrest the suspects. Wazirganj deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Saroj Khan said: "We conducted raids last (Sunday) night and today (Monday) but the accused are absconding."

The woman's husband, Dinesh, of Patedmangrawan village under the jurisdiction of Wazirganj police station, lodged an FIR with the Mufassil police station against Kundan of Siyarbhukka village under the jurisdiction of Chandauti police station, Gulshan Kumar of Basambigha village and Govind Kumar of Lodipur village (under the jurisdiction of Khisersarai police station). Dinesh stayed with his wife and children in a rented accommodation at Janakpur mohalla under the jurisdiction of Mufassil police station. The three men also lived as tenants in the same building, along with other youths.

In the FIR, Dinesh accused the three men of passing vulgar remarks at his wife frequently. Sometimes, they even placed small placards with vulgar words written on them outside their room. "These youths always troubled us with their behaviour. They threw my bike outside the housing campus around 15 days ago," Dinesh told The Telegraph on Monday. "Fed up with the behaviour of these youths, my wife hanged herself around 9.30am yesterday (Sunday). She is still battling for her life at ANMCH. After being admitted to the hospital, her condition improved but it again deteriorated early today (Monday). My wife is still not out of danger." said Dinesh.

Dinesh and his wife have two sons, aged eight years and 18 months. Police are trying to find out the location of the accused by tracking their cellphone numbers. Their call detail record will also be checked.

"With technical investigation in progress, police will nab the trio soon," the DSP said. "Today (Monday), raids were conducted at their native villages. Though the woman asked her husband to approach the police and complain about behaviour of the youths, he never went to the police station. Nevertheless, police are making all efforts to arrest the trio. Following the arrest, the police will seek permission of senior officers for a speedy trial."
