New Delhi, Nov. 10 (PTI): Senior Janata Dal United leader K.C. Tyagi was named its secretary-general while diplomat-politician Pawan Kumar Varma and journalist-MP Harivansh were made general secretaries in the new team of Nitish Kumar, the Bihar chief minister and president of the party.

The list of office-bearers, which was released today with Nitish's signature, names nine general secretaries, including Tyagi - who has also been named secretary-general - six secretaries, and a treasurer.

Nitish is currently on his Nischay Yatra in West and East Champaran.

Tyagi, the party's face outside Bihar, retained his position as secretary-general in the team of previous JDU president Sharad Yadav.

Nitish confidant and JDU Rajya Sabha member Ram Chandra Prasad Singh has been made general secretary (organisation), said Ravindra Prasad Singh, who will be its new national secretary.

The new JDU team saw the inclusion of three members - Varma, a former IFS officer, and Harivansh, a Rajya Sabha member, and Verghese George of Kerala - while six others who were office-bearers during Sharad Yadav's tenure have been retained, he said.

Arun Kumar Srivastava, Javed Raza, Shyam Rajak, Maulana Ghulam Rasool Baliyavi are the other general secretaries.

Nitish had taken over the reins of the party from Sharad in April. His election was ratified at the JDU's two-day national council meet at Rajgir last month.

Apart from Ravindra Prasad Singh, who has been elevated to the post of national secretary from that of a general secretary of the state unit, five others - Ramsewak Singh, Vidya Sagar Nishad (legislators), Virendra Singh Vidhuri, Afaque Ahmad Khan and M.B. Shreyans Kumar - would be the other national secretaries.

Kaushalendra Kumar, a Lok Sabha member from Nitish's home district of Nalanda, has been made the party treasurer.

Coinciding with the changes, former BSP MLA Hriday Narayan Singh today joined the party along with hundreds of his supporters at the JDU headquarters in Patna in the presence of Bihar unit chief Bashishtha Narayan Singh.
