Adri session

In a session organised by the Asian Development Research Institute (Adri) as part of its silver jubilee celebrations, several scholars on Monday spoke on the status of women, trends in labour migration and social protection.

Analysing migration patterns in urban Bihar and India, Debolina Kundu, an associate professor with the National Institute of Urban Affairs, stated the share of adult male migrants in urban areas of Bihar has increased from 17 per cent in 1999-2000 to 26 per cent in 2007-2008 whereas a decline of 1 per cent took place nationally in the corresponding period.

She stated that employment was the dominant reason for men migrating out of the state, especially in rural Bihar.

Tauheed Educational Trust president Motihur Rahman on Monday said the Imam of Masjid al-Haram of Kaaba in Mecca will visit Patna for the first time and will lead the Juma (Friday) prayers at Gandhi Maidan on April 1.
