Patna: The transport department has decided to run a bus service between Patna and Hajipur from next week. This would be fifth route on which Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) Ltd is starting a bus service.

Altogether 12 buses will be put into service. The buses will commence journey at Kargil Chowk and stop at Hajipur railway station.

BSRTC's bus service on four other routes in Patna has already become a hit among residents. Since the start on May 3, the bus service has collected over Rs 50 lakh in revenue while footfall has gone from 4,000 to 30,000.

The four routes that the service exists on are Kargil Chowk to Danapur, Kargil Chowk to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Kargil Chowk to Patna University and Kargil Chowk to Patna Saheb railway station.

"It will be our fifth bus service and we are expecting people to get maximum benefit from it," transport secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal told The Telegraph. "There are private bus services which ply on and off between Patna and Hajipur but there is no dedicated service on this route."

The route survey of the service has been completed and buses will be available every 20 minutes. The fare will be low at first.
