Patna Diary

Those complaining about chaos at the wedding of Tej Pratap Yadav on Saturday should talk to old timers of the RJD. "It was still better organised than the wedding of Laluji 's eldest daughter Misa. There was not only loot of food by uninvited guests, but also a lathicharge by the police to control the crowd. Not only did genuine invitees get beaten up, but some important baraatis also got beaten up.

Still better than earlier

• Those complaining about chaos at the wedding of Tej Pratap Yadav on Saturday should talk to old timers of the RJD. "It was still better organised than the wedding of Laluji 's eldest daughter Misa. There was not only loot of food by uninvited guests, but also a lathicharge by the police to control the crowd. Not only did genuine invitees get beaten up, but some important baraatis also got beaten up. The groom's side was so angry that they left the venue and Laluji had to go and ask for forgiveness," recalled a RJD leader stressing that at least in Tej Pratap's wedding there was no lathicharge by the police. "But the reason why there was no lathicharge is because Misa's wedding was at 1 Aney Marg when Lalu was in power. This time he is in the Opposition and thankfully there were no over enthusiastic lathi-wielding policeme," said a BJP leader.

Wedding cheer

• Persons who have seen the weddings of Lalu and Rabri Devi's two daughters in Patna recall that bureaucrats vied with each other to make their presence felt in those events. District magistrates, superintendents of police, and officials right up to the rank of chief secretary and DGP made it a point to attend. At Tej Pratap's wedding, only chief secretary Anjani Singh was visible. "Bureaucrats make sure that they are not seen on the wrong side of powers that be," declared an RJD leader pointing out that all bureaucrats of Bihar were sent invitation cards. A senior bureaucrat said he had attended the weddings of two daughters earlier. "But then I was young and managed to jostle my way," he remarked. "I do not have the physical strength to do it now."

Bihar shock

• The caterer who served at Tej Pratap's wedding has vowed never to step inside Bihar again. The Kanpur-based caterer is reported to have worked in functions hosted by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family members."Here there was no one, as a result food was looted, crockery were either broken or stolen, rogues threw ice cream at each other, food tables were overturned and the caterer's men were manhandled," remarked an RJD MLA.

Just remember

• Next time if anyone is either catching a flight to or from Patna, just make sure that no one from Lalu's family is getting married. Passengers landing in Patna airport at 9pm on Saturday had a bitter experience. There were no taxis nor were the cars they had called to the airport able to reach as all the approach roads were jammed due to crowds and vehicles coming to Tej Pratap's wedding venue. "My wife and I had to walk 2km dragging our luggage," said a frustrated passenger.
