Tired of requests for admission

Tired of requests seeking recommendation for admission to central schools, Patna commissioner K.P. Ramaiah has put up a notice outside his office declaring that his quota in central schools had exhausted and visitors should not pester him further on the issue. But people visiting his janata darbar refuse to adhere to the request and keep on pestering him for the same.

' When it comes to seeking favours from authorities, the request for admission to premier schools tops the list. The Patliputra police station once used to be flooded with requests for admission as many premier schools were in its jurisdiction. The police station had to put up a notice declaring that such requests will not be entertained,” recalled an officer at the commissioner’s office.

MPs play truant

Two RJD leaders - Raghuvansh Prasad Singh and Jagdanand Singh - played truant in the meeting convened by the RJD chief, Lalu Prasad, at his official residence 10, Circular Road recently. There is speculation about Raghuvansh in the RJD circles.”In a function held in memory of Raghuvansh’s wife, there were more JD(U) leaders than the RJD leaders,” said a senior RJD leader. In the last Lok Sabha polls the RJD won just four of the 40 seats in Bihar.”RJD MP Umashankar Prasad Singh is just technically a member of the party and has worked for the Congress. The other two, Rahuvansh and Jagdanand, are ardly present in any f the functions,” the RJD leader added.

All in same boat

Airing his frustration, an RTI activist said it was an uphill task to find facts on irregularities by IAS officers. “I applied for a list of IPS officers facing corruption charges. It was promptly given. But when I sought the same for IAS officers, the authorities concerned did not give me any information for six months. When I enquired, authorities told me that it was a time-taking process as the information has to be collected from districts also,” said an RTI activist. IPS officers also have complaints against the IAS lobby as they allege that they have been victims of the”rusting iron frame” of the administration. The government, however, treats both IAS and IPS officers equally.” Recently, a minister refused to utter the names of IPS officers facing corruption charges inside the ssembly, saying that it would defame them s the charges were under investigation. he same rule is not pplied to ‘lesser mortals’ in the state police and the administrative services,” said a state government official.

Heat at LJP news meet

A worker of the LJP took exception to a media person for asking a series of tough questions to his leaders in a news conference. The mediaperson turned furious and vowed never to step inside the LJP office again. He was pacified as the party workers showed their anger at the worker. “As it is, not many journalists come to this office. Do you want to drive away the rest?” the leaders asked the party worker.
