Social welfare minister Parveen Amanullah is mulling legal action against all encroachers in the Patliputra area.

The move comes days after JD(U) MLA Anant Singh got a taste of her wrath over illegal car parking in a public space.

On whether she was satisfied with the ongoing removal of debris from the open space near hotel Buddha Heritage, Amanullah said: “It’s not the question of pin-pointing one place under Pataliputra Co-operative Housing Society. It (encroachment) is a problem in several places in the area. We need to take strict action against all encroachers.”

She added: “First, we have to revive the entire housing society, which has been inefficient in tackling such cases. Instead of waiting for the hotel to remove the debris, the society could have used its own tractors and men to clear the debris and other construction material. We are mulling a re-election to form a new team in the society that can take up such issues.”

“I alone cannot take the decision. It is the society which has to take the initiative. Through the society, we will send legal notices to shops, stalls, hospitals and private schools, which have encroached upon land in the Patliputra area. The registrar of the society was out of town. But he has come back and we will have a fresh election of the society shortly,” she said. The society rule does not allow people to construct any commercial buildings and structure.

Last week, the minister had been on a collision course with the management of hotel Buddha Heritage over encroachment on an open space of the housing society. The hotel had constructed an illegal boundary wall around the space and dumped construction material on it. Vehicles of the hotel were also parking on the land illegally.
