Patna, July 29: The high court today constituted a three-member committee to inquire into the alleged irregularities in the CBSE Class XII examination results, especially in marking of mathematics paper.
The committee would comprise the head of the department of mathematics of Patna University, additional director-general of police Abhayanand, who impart training to students preparing for IIT-JEE, and a representative of the CBSE chairman. The panel would have to submit its report within three weeks.
A bench of Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi constituted the committee after the court prima facie found that the evaluation had not been done properly. It issued the directive after perusing the report submitted by the CBSE according to the court’s order in the last hearing. The next hearing would be on August 19.
According to the report furnished by the CBSE, about 13,000 students failed in the examination in the Patna region. Of them, around 11,000 students failed in mathematics.
The students of St Joseph’s School at Dalsinghsarai in Samastipur filed a bunch of petitions seeking review of their papers. Some students of the city-based schools also approached the high court seeking re-evaluation of their answer-sheets after the CBSE did not pay heed to their representation alleging irregularities in the Class XII exam results.
Appearing for one of the petitioners, advocate Raju A. Giri submitted that the answer-sheets should be re-evaluated because people not fulfilling the requisite criteria laid down by the board evaluated them. It states that the head examiners must be in the rank of principals or vice-principals or postgraduates, while the examiners should have at least three years of teaching experience with a postgraduation degree, Giri said.
“It has been found that teachers of primary schools evaluated the papers, which was a clear violation of the CBSE regulation,” Giri said.
