A cyclist was shot at and injured by two men on a motorcycle in Muzaffarpur district on Tuesday evening, allegedly for not allowing their two-wheeler to pass.

The incident, second of its kind in the fortnight, took place near Rohua gas godown on Muzaffarpur-Musahari road under the jurisdiction of Mithanpur police station in Muzaffarpur district, around 80km north of Patna.

A similar incident had taken place in Gaya on May 7 in which one youth, Aditya Sachdeva, was allegedly shot dead by lawmaker Manorama Devi's son Rocky Yadav. The only fault of Aditya was that he was sitting in a car, which allegedly had not given pass to Rocky's vehicle.

Police in Muzaffarpur said the two unidentified men riding a motorcycle got agitated after a 20-year-old youth, Anil Paswan, refused to allow the motorbike to cross. Anil was riding a bicycle. Later, they fired at Anil, who suffered bullet injuries in his waist.

The attackers, however, managed to escape unhurt. Mithanpura police station house officer Kiran Kumar said Anil was attacked for his refusal to allow a motorbike to cross his bicycle.

There was much activity on the road when the incident happened around 8pm, the SHO said, adding that the victim had been admitted to a private nursing home where his condition was stable. An FIR has been lodged against unidentified persons in this connection.

Pramod Kumar, a local resident, said the area has of late been prone to road accidents because of heavy traffic, especially during office hours. Anil, a daily wager, was returning home after finishing his work, he added.

Anil was first admitted to the local primary health centre from where he was referred to Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital. He was later shifted to a private nursing home because of ongoing agitation of junior doctors across the state.

SHO Kiran said the condition of the victim is stable. No arrest has been made in the case so far. The police sources said once the condition of the injured youth improves, they would take his help in getting the sketches of his assailants made for nabbing them.

Harassment arrest

Ashok Kumar (42), a resident of Haryana, was arrested by GRP personnel aboard 12381 Poorva Express on Tuesday on charges of misbehaving with a woman passenger near Dehri-on-Son.

Dehri GRP station house officer Sitaram Rajak said Ashok misbehaved with the victim in a sleeper coach in a drunken state. He was late produced before the railway court, which remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.

Om Prakash, Sitamarhi district project officer of midday meal, was arrested by vigilance investigation bureau on charges of taking a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from one D.K. Paldiwal on Tuesday. Prakash had allegedly demanded bribe for clearing payment of bills.
