Police have decided to set up 10 outposts alongside national highways in north Bihar to check frequent incidents of loot and murder.

According to the police, incidents of looting of trucks entering the state and drivers being murdered have increased of late.

Director-general of police Abhayanand has expressed displeasure over the functioning of the police stations along the national highways and directed zonal police inspector general Pankaj Darad to set up outposts to tackle such crime on NH-28, NH-57 and NH-77.

“Mobile numbers of deputy superintendents of police and station house officers should be on display along national highways,” Darad said.

He added that station house officers would be suspended or departmental proceedings initiated against them if they fail to recover trucks within 10 days of loot.

“The gang preys on trucks from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Assam, Sikkim and Madhya Pradesh,” said senior superintendent of police of Muzaffarpur Saurav Kumar.
