Patna, Jan. 28: Kshama, a homemaker, quickly looked at her watch as she approached the entrance of Patna Women’s College. “Oh no! I am late again,” she said with a smile that gave away the turmoil of emotions she was trying her best to hold within.
Former students from BEd department of Patna Women’s College today were back on the campus to celebrate their alumni meet.
Students from the oldest batch (2005-2006) to the latest (2009-2010) participated in the function organised by the BEd department on the college premises.
Kshama, a 2005-2006 batch student, said: “I became very emotional on seeing my college after such a long time. There are so many memories attached to this place.”
She said as a student she had the habit of checking the time after reaching the college premises. The Patna Women’s College is very strict about punctuality and discipline. “Today I was late for the function. Thank God, I don’t have to face any punishment now,” Kshama laughed.
Sana Rehman, another student of the same batch, said: “I wish I could meet Sister Silvee who was our course coordinator. She was a very sweet and caring woman. Whenever we had some difficulty, we used to seek her advice.”
Recalling her college days, Sana said she and her friend Zareen were really naughty but always got away with their mischief because the teachers were kind.
“All of us just loved the microphone. Once me and Zareen found a microphone in an empty classroom and we started singing the title track of the movie Titanic. Sister Silvee heard our song and started looking for us. Luckily, we sensed it and managed to escape from the classroom before Sister Silvee could catch us.” Zareen, also present at the meet, added that Sana was singing and she was kind of giving the background score.
Moushumi Banerjee (41), a passout of 2006-2007 batch, is presently a teacher at a renowned school in the city. When asked if she could remember where she used to sit in the class, she promptly said: “Oh yeah! Last bench. Sitting there, I could easily avoid the classes which did not interest me. But that does not mean I was a bad listener or poor student. I was always very attentive if I liked the subject.”
Present head of BEd department Upasana Singh lauded the achievements of the former students. College principal Doris D’ Souza also participated in the function.
