NTPC Kahalgaon's super thermal power station (STPS) is focusing on providing livelihood-oriented skill training to the under-privileged young living in the vicinity of the power station.

Kahalgaon: NTPC Kahalgaon's super thermal power station (STPS) is focusing on providing livelihood-oriented skill training to the under-privileged young living in the vicinity of the power station.

It has also broken all previous records in power production, claimed K. Sreedhar, group general manager (GGM) of the project here.

Talking to The Telegraph here, Sreedhar said that the Kahalgaon unit is scheduled to conduct a 6-month plastic engineering vocational training programme through CIPET, Hajipur, on 25 candidates, comprising land-oustees and other needy candidates.

The programme will start in the first week of April. On successful completion of the course, candidates will be placed in the plastic industry as regular employees.

According to him, the unit has already arranged coaching for such students with the help of Sumitra Devi ITI. Coaching classes of IBT for banking, railways and other services have started. NTPC is providing financial support to candidates by shouldering 50 per cent of the course fee. It will provide nearly Rs 10 lakh for coaching of students.

NTPC Kahalgaon is also arranging farmer training at villages like Sobhnathour, Sadanadpur Baisa, Keria, Jangalgopali, Bhuska and Paltola. The farmers attended a training programme on the latest farming techniques to improve crop yield and farm revenue. These farmers have formed Kisan Mandals in their villages and are soon going to implement the techniques, he said.

The GGM also counted several welfare schemes on his figures like construction of community halls in Sobhnathur and Kutehri village, construction of Darshak Dirgha and boundary wall at Rakiya Uchh Vidyalaya, Ishipur, Barahat and construction of Town Hall, Kahalgaon.

He said the power unit has concentrated much on sanitation and built 94 toilets in Ekchari-Purab tola, Maheshamunda, RCI, and Bhuska.
