Patna, Feb. 17: The state police may be experiencing rapid development under the Nitish Kumar regime but it still appears to be moving at a snail’s pace as far as information technology is concerned. The official website of the state police — http:biharpolice.bih.nic.in — is still waiting to be updated with the departmental transfers, some of which took place a week ago.

On February 10, about 99 police officials, including two additional director-generals (ADGs), two inspector-generals (IGs) and superintendents of police of about two dozen districts were transferred by the state government. But the officials responsible for keeping the website up-to-date have not updated the website to provide information about the major reshuffle in the police administration.

A visitor to the website will be informed that B.S. Meena, a 1996-batch IPS officer is the Patna senior superintendent of police, though, in reality, he has been promoted to the post of the deputy inspector-general (DIG) in Tirhut range.

Alok Kumar, a 1997-batch IPS officer Jammu and Kashmir cadre, replaced Meena a week ago. But according to the website Alok is still the superintendent of rail police, posted at Jamalpur.

Similarly, Gupteshwar Pandey, a 1987-batch IPS officer, is at present posted as the inspector-general Muzaffarpur whereas according to the website he is posted as IG (special branch) at the police headquarters. In fact, Praveen Vashistha, a 1991-batch IPS officer, is at present the IG, special branch.

IG, special branch has been assigned the task to update the website, a senior IPS officer told The Telegraph when his attention was drawn to the missing and incorrect information on the website.

The officer added that personnel posted with the National Informatics Centre upload new information on the website.

The transfer of two senior IPS officers Rajvardhan Sharma and Pramod Kumar Thakur — both officers of 1980-batch — is yet to be uploaded. While Sharma has been transferred from the CID and posted as ADG (headquarters), Thakur, who formerly occupied that post, has been shifted to the vigilance investigation bureau.

All 11 officers of 1996-batch IPS officers, who were promoted to the rank of DIG, have taken up new assignments at the respective places of their posting while the website still mentioned them posted as SPs of Patna, Purnea, Nawada, Jamui, Bhojpur, East Champaran, Khagaria, Muzaffarpur and others.

Sources at the state police headquarters said that the website was last updated on October 2010.
