The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) empowered standing committee on Wednesday upheld the decision of its commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pal to cancel registration of flats or buildings on plots resold by lessees without taking the necessary permission from the civic body.
About 10 days ago, the PMC issued notices to 95 lessees, who were allotted land by the erstwhile Patna Regional Development Authority (PRDA) — now merged with the civic body — but later resold it to builders for constructing residential or commercial complexes.
The corporation had written letters to the registration office mentioning the plots on which the registry of flats or buildings had to be stopped with immediate effect. Orders have also been issued to stop the ongoing construction work on such plots.
“The move was taken up by the corporation after a survey at Sri Krishna Puri and Rajendra Nagar localities for identifying the structures that were constructed in violation with the lease deeds. While 82 such structures were identified in the Rajendra Nagar area, 12 constructions came to notice from Sri Krishna Puri. We have also directed the officials to carry out similar surveys in areas where PRDA gave away plots on lease,” mayor Afzal Imam said after the meeting.
In Wednesday’s meeting, the empowered committee also approved of the executive order to form a team of officials and workers in all four administrative zones of the civic body for maintenance, upkeep and repairing of water pumps and supply lines.
Sources said there are 105 water pumps in the corporation area. Being very old, the pumps frequently develop snags during summer and monsoon, hampering water supply to various localities.
The teams will be assigned with the task to carry out regular examination of pumps and to repair them at the earliest in case of breakdown.
The committee has also asked the authorities concerned to find out under what processes and terms Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation floated the tenders to invite bidders for developing solid waste management plant at Bairiyachak village in the outskirts of the city. A private firm will construct the solid waste management plant under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission for treating about 800 tonnes of waste from the city every day. Solid wastes collected by the PMC workers are mostly dumped at its construction site and lie untreated.
The committee also decided to hike wages of its skilled labourers to Rs 185 from Rs 183, while the “extremely skilled” ones will get a hike of Rs 3 to earn Rs 226 every day.
