Chandragupt Institute of Management, Patna, organised an orientation programme for its postgraduate diploma students on Saturday.

A couple of alumnus from the institution - Parashar Amarnath and Sandeep Chaudhary - addressed the students and spoke about the challenges and the scope offered by the course.

Parashar is a project sales officer in Goa with Asian Paints and Sandeep is an assistant manager at Lenovo in New Delhi. G.K. Murthy, the academic chairperson of the institution, introduced them to the students.

During their interaction, Sandeep shared his experience with the students. He thanked the institution for its continuous support to his career and told the students they should attend the classes as well as extracurricular activities in their time on the campus.

The students were delighted to hear about the scope offered by the course.

One of them, Dinesh Kumar, said: "Both the seniors' stories were inspiring and motivated us to do well in both academics and extra-curricular activities. They also gave us some tips on job interview and how to communicate with different people, and told us to always be confident and bold."

Fight ozone depletion

Patna Women's College celebrated Ozone Day followed by an oath-taking ceremony of members of the eco task force on the campus on Wednesday.

Close to 150 students became new members of the eco task force and took the oath to protect the environment while 100 girls adopted one sapling each. The girls also displayed placards with the message - Save earth, save ozone layer.

To generate consciousness about environmental issues among students and to guide them to protect the environment, the head of the zoology department of the college, Shahla Yasmin, was present.

The new members of the force formed a human chain to protect the environment. Yasmin talked about the harmful effects of ozone depletion and the possible measures to protect the environment.

Dipti Sinha, an English student, said: "It is our moral duty to keep our surroundings clean and protect our environment. Now, I am a member of the eco task force and I will make sure the campus and my surroundings are clean."

Blood for life

St Xavier's College, in collaboration with St Xavier's College of Management and Technology and Kurji Holy Family Hospital, organised an awareness programme on blood donation for the students on the campus on September 18.

Reena Ranjan, the blood bank officer at Kurji Holy Family Hospital, asked the students to always look out for a reliable blood bank during donation. She also briefed the students about superstitions prevalent in society regarding blood donation.

"Many people say blood donation is harmful for health but it is wrong. The body of a donor can regenerate the units donated within a few days and it poses no threat," she said.

"This awareness programme was organised in the wake of a blood donation camp, which will be held in the college on September 24. Every year, a blood donation camp is held prior to the National Blood Donation Day, October 1," said T. Nishant, the principal of St Xavier's College.
