Nitish Kumar on Tuesday sharply reacted to the CBI raids on his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal's office, describing it as a "dangerous signal for democracy and federal structure" of the country.

"I am shocked to hear it. Had the chief minister (Kejriwal) been informed about the raids? It should not have been carried out the manner in which it was. It is an ominous sign for democracy and the federal structure," Nitish said, replying to a query from reporters.

Nitish found the occasion of the raids too quite incongruous. "There was a case against a certain official (Rajender Kumar, principal secretary to the Delhi chief minister) that dated back to 2007-08. How does it matter with the tenure of the current Delhi CM? What occasioned this raid?" he asked.

Nitish, at the same time, clarified that he was not opposed to the investigation against any official. "I am not opposed to the investigation. I don't approve the interference in any investigation either. Jitni bhi ab tak ki maryaadaayein hain kendra aur rajyon ke beech mein, woh bhang ho rahi hain (But all the dignities between the Centre and the states is being smashed)," he said, adding: "It is unbelievable."

Nitish and Kejriwal have been on the same page in their opposition to the Narendra Modi-led dispensation and they share amicable relationship with each other.

Kejriwal was among many other leaders, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who attended Nitish's swearing-in on November 20.

Kejriwal, who was the first to nail the BJP in Delhi, supported Nitish in his battle against the BJP-led NDA in the Bihar polls. Nitish has been steadfastly supporting Kejriwal's demand of full statehood for Delhi.

Asked about Kejriwal's "harsh words" against the Prime Minister, Nitish parried the question. "I will confine myself to the unprecedented action on a chief minister's office," he said.
