Modi for joint tax team

Patna: The empowered committee of finance ministers of state, which is headed by deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, on Wednesday resolved that a joint committee of central and state officials should be set up to prepare the negative list for the proposed goods and service tax (GST). he meeting was held at Delhi. The empowered committee has been set up to discuss issues related to GST. A press note issued by Modi’s office on Wednesday said that the committee of officials would give its report after studying all the aspects.

Fuel strike

Patna: The Federation of All India Petroleum Traders has deferred its indefinite strike. It has now been decided that petrol pumps across the country would down their shutters from the midnight of April 22 to the midnight of April 23 and in case the demands are not met with, indefinite strike would be observed from the midnight of April 29-30.

Demise

Patna: Mahendra Prasad Gupta, a noted Patna High Court advocate, passed away following a heart attack on Wednesday morning at his residence in Bazar Samiti. He was 60. He is survived by his wife and three sons.

Patna: Punjab National Bank organised a customer awareness programme at Sampatchak on Wednesday, which was presided over by A.F. Naqvi, banking ombudsman.

Accident

Patna: A city bus on Wednesday turned turtle after one of its tyres burst near Patna High Court. At least five people have suffered minor injuries in the accident.

Electrocuted

Gopalganj: A woman and her daughter were electrocuted at Bishambharpur village under Manjha police station in Gopalganj district on Wednesday.

Life sentence

Chhapra: Additional district and sessions judge 1 Ashutosh Kumar Singh on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to eight persons on charge of beating one Baleshwar Giri to death following a land dispute at Keshari Mathiya village in 2007.
