Bribe arrests

Patna: State vigilance bureau sleuths on Friday nabbed police sub-inspector Parshuram Paswan, posted at Bhabhua police station, and head clerk Ajay Kumar, posted at Vaishali district education office, while accepting bribes. aswan was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 for submitting a favourable report in a case and Kumar was caught while taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 for sending a recommendation for the release of funds.

I-T proposal

Motihari: Joint commissioner of Income Tax department, Muzaffarpur, Umesh Chandra Mishra on Friday suggested I-T assessees of East Champaran to pay advance tax in instalments.

Appointment

Patna: Balram Tiwari, the Hindi professor of Patna University, has been appointed the registrar of the varsity.

Attack protest

Patna: Members of the state branch of Indian Medical Association on Friday condemned the attack on a nursing home in Patliputra Colony. Branch president Rajiv Ranjan Prasad said the incident was shocking and the administration should ensure the security of life and property of doctors.

Nitish’s special tag jab

Patna, Sept. 6: Chief minister Nitish Kumar today ridiculed his former deputy Sushil Kumar Modi for his statement on special status. “The demand for special status was unanimously passed in both Houses of the state legislature. Why did not they (the BJP) say then that special status will not help Bihar?” he said. itish said the JD(U) had launched an agitation on the issue.

Ticket check

Patna: East Central Railway on Friday conducted a 12-hour ticket checking drive from 6am at Patna Junction. Officials of railway police force and government railway police nabbed 1,493 commuters.

Dengue death

Patna: Dayanand Prasad (48), a resident of Nawada and a dengue patient, died at Jagdish Memorial Hospital in Patna on Friday, confirmed sources in the civil surgeon’s office.

Deposit rate

Patna: Central Bank of India has enhanced rates on the Cent Benefit Deposit scheme from 9 per cent to 9.5 for short-term deposits varying from 14 to 179 days.
