Vandalism at varsity office

Muzaffarpur: Students of bachelor in computer applications went on the rampage at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University on Monday alleging irregularities in evaluation of answer scripts. They also had a heated exchange of words with registrar Vivekanand Shukla and vice-chancellor Ravi Verma over the issue. he university had announced the results of bachelor in computer applications course on January 18. Majority of the students failed in the examination, prompting the rampage on Monday. The students broke furniture at the office and damaged official ledgers and documents in demand of a re-evaluation. An FIR has been lodged against unidentified students. he vice-chancellor said he has called a meeting of the examination board in a few days.

Firearms supplier in net

Gaya: A suspected firearms supplier, Mohit Kumar Singh, was arrested late on Sunday evening. Senior superintendent of police Nishant Kumar Tiwari on Monday said a team led by Kotwali police station house officer Uday Shankar nabbed Singh near Dulhinganj railway crossing No. 1 in Gaya town. The police recovered six countrymade pistols, 10 magazines and a cellphone from him.

Gang arrest

Ara: Mohammad Navi, a man posing as a sales tax officer, was arrested from Dhanupara village on Ara-Patna road on Sunday evening. Six members in his gang were also arrested. Police recovered 11 mobiles among other items from them. The gang used to loot trucks.

Fertiliser seizure

Motihari: Police seized around 1,000 bags of fertiliser from Chiraiya village in East Champaran district on Sunday night. They suspect they were being smuggled to Nepal, as the documents found with the people transporting the fertiliser were filled with irregularities.

Bribery case

Patna: A special CBI court took cognisance against Sanjeev Kumar Gyani, the former branch manager of a nationalised bank, in a bribery case. Gyani, posted as the branch manager in Begusarai district, was arrested in November last year while taking a bribe of Rs 12,000.

Vigilance order

Patna: A special vigilance court on Monday sought the memo of evidence in a case related to alleged financial irregularities in purchase of medicines for Patna Medical College and Hospital.

Campus agitation

Patna: Members of the RJD students’ wing on Monday staged a demonstration at Patna University against the administration’s decision to ban protests by students’ organisation on the campus.

Protest

Patna: Members of All India Democratic Youth Organisation on Monday staged a protest against the introduction of semester system in Industrial Training Institutes, claiming the decision was not in the interest of students.

Bank branch

Patna: The Bank of Baroda has opened one branch each at Digha and Danapur, taking the count of outlets in the state to 81.
