Ara (PTI): The driver of a police jeep was killed and six policemen were injured on Thursday when their vehicle rammed into a stationary truck at Dharhara in Bhojpur district. he driver, Mahendra Kumar Das, alias Gopal (40), died on the spot, while two sub-inspectors and four homeguard jawans were admitted to Sadar hospital. The driver’s body was sent for post-mortem. Muzaffarpur (PTI): A district court on Thursday sentenced 11 persons to life imprisonment, ordering six to serve their terms till death in the abduction case of nine-year-old Hrithik Raj five years ago. All 11 convicts would have to pay Rs 50,000 fine each failing which they will have to serve an additional three years. Patna: Judicial magistrate Ravi Ranjan on Thursday sentenced Jehanabad block assistant civil surgeon Krishna Kumar Rai and his son, Kundan Kumar Priyadarshi, to two years’ simple imprisonment in a dowry demand case. Kundan’s wife, Sarika Roy, had filed a complaint against them in the Patna chief judicial magistrate court in 2005. Gaya (PTI): A man was arrested for allegedly duping a Japanese tourist of Rs 3.5 lakh from a village under Fatehpur police station area in the district. Acting on a complaint lodged by Shinji Kutchi, a resident of Nakagawa, Mohammed Saddam from was nabbed from Devkipur village and Rs 70,000 was recovered from him, police said. Gaya: Several illegal boarders of hostels under Magadh University on Thursday attacked deputy registrar Mariam Samuel, dean, students’ welfare, Sitaram Singh and damaged computers and nameplates outside chambers of varsity officials in the administrative building. Four students have been identified and they have been kept under observation. Patna: The state government on Thursday posted two IAS officers. According to a general administration department notification, Jayant Das Gupta (1981 batch) has been appointed as a member of the state planning board, while Arun Kumar Mishra has been made joint secretary in the finance department. Mishra was promoted to the IAS cadre recently. Purnea: Residents disrupted train movement at Awrahi station in Purnea district on Thursday, a day after a woman was allegedly beaten up by a group of people for protesting against a molestation bid. The protesters stopped the Banmankhi-Bihariganj Passenger around 8.30am. The blockade was lifted around 1pm after the intervention of Dilnawaz Ahmad, the assistant superintendent of police in charge of the Dhamdaha subdivision and the GRP.
