The land issue for setting up the proposed Indian Institute of Management-Bihar in Gaya has been sorted out with the Magadh University coming up with a fresh map earmarking over 118 acres for the business school.
A two-member team from the state higher education department, including officer on special duty (OSD)-cum-nodal officer of Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Bihar Shivesh Ranjan, visited the Magadh University (MU)'s Bodhgaya headquarters on Wednesday and discussed the issue with the vice-chancellor, Mohammad Ishtiyaque, registrar Sushil Singh and other varsity officials.
After the discussions, Ranjan said the university officials had provided a map of around 118.82 acres for setting up the IIM. Earlier, the university had sent a map comprising only 68 acres against the requirement of 119 acres.
"According to the map we got today (Wednesday), the requirement of 119 acres would be fulfilled. Now, the state government will inform the Union human resource development (HRD) ministry about the availability of land. It is up to the Union HRD ministry to decide when the session would begin and with how many students. The MU administration has promised to provide the building of the directorate of distance education for conducting the classes and the hostel No. 6 on the campus," he said.
"The fresh map of land would be sent to the Union HRD ministry for the final approval for setting up of the IIM-Bihar in Gaya. After the university administration, the state government and the union HRD ministry agree, the process of land transfer would begin," he said.
The university engineer, Ramesh Prasad, said: "The map of 118.82 acres, including 68 acres towards the southern end of the campus and 50.82 acres at Bapunagar village on other end of the road towards west of the campus, has been prepared in consultation with the circle officer of Bodhgaya."
The university administration has agreed to provide the first-floor and the under-construction second-floor of the directorate of distance education building on its campus to run classes for IIM. The state government has assured the university that it would provide additional funds for its campus development, a source said.
