East Central Railway’s new timetable comes into effect from Monday.

ECR general manager Madhuresh Kumar released the timetable on Sunday. Timings of 243 mail and express trains departing from 10 ECR stations have been changed.

Also, the railway has decided to stop running two trains — (13111/13112) Delhi-Howrah Lal Quila Express and (130-39/13040) Delhi-Howrah Janta Express — that had started before Independence. The decision was taken as there was a shortage of coaches and it was not possible to run these trains. The British started the Lal Quila Express in 1866 and the Janta Express in 1946.

The Kolkata-Anand Vihar Terminal Express (13131/131-32), starting September 1, will be like a replacement as its halts would be the same as that of the Janata Express. “Seven new trains have been introduced, two of them premium, one express and four Jan Sadharan Express. The date of their introduction will be notified later,” said Madhuresh.
