New campus cheer for CIMP

Seven-year wait comes to an end at state-of-the-art Mithapur address

Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna's (CIMP) seven-year wait for its own campus at Mithapur has come to an end.

Set up in 2008, CIMP has been running from a temporary campus at Hindi Bhavan, while the first batch of students passed out from the campus in 2010.

The same year, chief minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone for the new campus on August 9 and after nearly five years, he would inaugurate it on Friday.

Though the institute shifted to its new campus from Hindi Bhawan a fortnight ago, it has been waiting for its formal inauguration. Sources said the administration received a letter from the education department last week about the inauguration of the new campus within a week.

A CIMP official, preferring anonymity, said: "It was a tough time for the administration to complete all work within a week. Workers, contractors and CIMP officials worked day and night to complete everything."

Spread across 10 acres, CIMP's new state-of-the-art building boasts of all facilities within the campus. The institute was established to train students to become effective managers.

CIMP director V. Mukunda Das said: "The basic idea behind setting up CIMP was to create an institution on the pattern of IIMs at a time when there was no management institution in Bihar."

CIMP now offers a two-year full-time postgraduate diploma in management but when they move to the new campus, the administration plans to launch few more courses.

The architects have tried to emulate the colour code of IIM-Ahmedabad at the new CIMP campus. IIM-Ahmedabad and CIMP both sport red brick walls. The centrally located dome-shaped academic-cum-administrative block is the main feature of the campus. The campus has separate 30-room hostel blocks for girls and boys.

The other attraction of the new campus is a centrally air-conditioned auditorium, which can seat 500 people. CIMP also has recreation rooms with table tennis, gymnasium and other facilities.

There are separate accommodation facilities for married students pursuing the management development programme (MDP). It has 10 one bedroom-hall-kitchen accommodation facilities for students. A small market sells stationery items and daily groceries.

CIMP, in its seven years of inception, has made steady progress with the help of a tie-up with different foreign universities.

This year, students got cent per cent placement. Against the backdrop of slow growth in the global and domestic economy, CIMP has successfully placed all its 2013-15 batch passouts ahead of this year's convocation.

Prominent corporates from diverse verticals such as banking and financial services, fast moving consumer durables (FMCG), dairy, microfinance, consulting, media, aviation and aerospace, development, government administration and IT services came for the campus selection.

The institute has also taken giant strides in the social sector through initiatives such as students' guidance centres, which aim at providing free coaching for the Common Admission Test (CAT) to meritorious students from socially and economically weaker sections of society.

The institute also runs Beautiful Minds, which provides free coaching to students from slums.
