Bollywood actress Neetu Chandra would bring the Kosi embankment breach of 2008 on celluloid through her second production venture.

After producing her debut Bhojpuri film Deswa in 2011, the actor is busy with her next production Mithila Makhaan Private Limited, a bilingual flick in Maithili and Hindi, which is set to hit the screens at the end of this year.

The film deals with the Kosi embankment breach of 2008 and the subsequent effort made by a youth to safeguard the cultural values of Mithila region.

Directed by Neetu's brother Nitin Chandra, who had also directed her first production, most of the cast of the film are from Bihar.

Produced under the banner of Champaran Talkies, the shooting of the film started in February. The Toronto and the US leg of the film shoot are over. At present, the cast and crew of the film are shooting in Darbhanga. The crew would shoot in various districts of Bihar, including Samastipur, Saharsa and Muzaffarpur, apart from Nepal.

Renowned singers Suresh Wadkar and Shreya Ghoshal have lent their voices for the film.

Speaking to The Telegraph over phone from Greece, Neetu, who is shooting there for another film, said: "I expect Mithila Makhaan... to touch the sentiments of people who were hit by the devastating Kosi deluge of 2008."

Kranti Prakash Jha, who had earlier acted in Deswa, plays the protagonist in the film. The rest of the cast includes Anurita Jha of Gangs of Wasseypur-II fame, who plays the second lead apart from Pankaj Jha, who has acted in several movies like Monsoon Wedding, Chameli and Company.

Director Nitin said: "I expect the film to take Maithili language across the globe and hope that it would make a mark in the history of filmmaking. I feel proud that most of the actors in my film are from Bihar and they understand the language well."

Protagonist Kranti, who is shooting in Darbhanga at present, said: "My character in the film is that of a boy who works in Toronto away from his hometown. He returns to his village to meet his mother after 23 years and finds out that the 2008 Kosi flood had ravaged his village. The movie is based on his struggle to bring back the village to its original form."

The breach in Kusaha barrage in 2008 led to the flooding of four districts and death of hundreds of people, as Kosi suddenly changed its course. More than 2.36 lakh houses were either washed out or damaged because of the flood.
