| Students perform at the carol competition at Patna Women’s College on Friday. Dressed in Christmas colours of red, white and green, participants sang in Hindi and English. Some of the popular Hindi numbers were Janma hai… and Chup hain chanda, chup hain taare, janma Maseeha raat ke khamoshi mein. The performers also created the Nativity scene and danced to elucidate the lyrics. The popular English carols were Gloria, Glory to God, Night of Joy and Do you see? Sister Doris D’Souza, the principal of the institute, said: “Celebrating Christmas is meaningful only when we spread the message of love and peace. Every individual should try to help the needy.” Geography department students clinched the first prize in the English category, while history department students along with pupils of other departments shared the top honours in the Hindi category. Father Raymond Cherubim, SJ, one of the judges, said he loved the performances and would like to present an act next year. Text by Shuchismita Chakraborty, picture by Ranjeet Kumar Dey |
