Patna, March 24: Ward councillors in Bihar can now be recalled if two-thirds of the registered voters of the respective wards are not satisfied with the formers’ performance.
An amendment in the Bihar Municipal Act in this regard was approved by the state cabinet today.
A state government source said many other amendments in the Bihar Municipal Act and Bihar Panchayati Raj Act too were approved in Thursday’s cabinet meet.
With regard to the appointment of college and university teachers, the cabinet gave approval to a proposal which talks of setting up a university commission for this purpose. Another major decision which got the cabinet approval is related to amendment in Bihar University Act and Patna University Act. It also approved a proposal which talks of taking away the power of local bodies to impose profession tax on residents. Now this power would be invested in the commercial taxes department.
Another major decision taken in the Thursday’s cabinet meet is related to management of Patna high court and district courts. The cabinet gave approval for appointment of 32 court managers for this purpose to begin with.
Altogether 51 proposals, including the ones related to setting up of a check post authority which would control the six integrated check posts coming up in the state, Rs. 5 crore allotment to Mahavir Cancer Sansthan for purchasing linear accelerator machine and introduction of training system for non-matriculate class IV employees which would make them eligible to get salary at par with matriculate class IV employees, were approved in Thursday cabinet meeting.
