Patna, July 15: Nineteen year-old Akhilesh, the son of Chote Lal Rai, the JD (U) MLA from Parsa in Saran district, accused of abusing and slapping a probationary sub-inspector (PSI) on duty, has not been arrested as yet.
The incident had taken place on July 12, the day Vice-President Hamid Ansari was on a daylong visit to the capital.
Patna superintendent of police Shivdeep Lande said the youth is absconding and the police will procure a warrant against him if he continued to escape from the law.
“The police raided his village in Parsa last evening but he was not found. He is nowhere to be found and the police are making raids to nab him. There is a chance he might be arrested by late evening today,” the officer said. The police have been facing flak for not being able to arrest Akhilesh with rumours doing the rounds that the police were deliberately not showing much interest in his arrest as he is the son of a politician of a ruling party.
Police officers, though, refuted the allegations.
“This is untrue. The police have been making honest attempts to arrest him. He has committed a serious offence and has been booked under non-bailable sections. The police are trying and he will be arrested soon,” another police officer said.
The incident had taken place at the Boring-Bailey Road Crossing under the Kotwali police station during the Vice-President’s visit.
Around noon that day, the police stoped a white SUV that wanted to go towards Bailey Road, at the crossing, as the road had been blocked in the wake of Vice-President Hamid Ansari’s visit.
When the policemen advised the youth to take a detour, he alighted from his vehicle and slapped the PSI.
Many roads of the capital were closed down because of the high-profile visit. The boy, who was driving his father’s car, wanted to go in a particular direction, which the policemen had objected to.
The same had resulted in an argument and the boy had allegedly slapped the PSI repeatedly stating that he was an MLA’s son.
The PSI lodged an FIR in the evening with the Kotwali police station.
The youth has been booked under Section 353, which calls for assault or criminal force used to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty. It is a non-bailable section.
Also, Section 323, which calls for voluntarily causing hurt, has been slapped on him. Earlier, in talks with The Telegraph, the MLA had confirmed the incident stating that Bihar MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy, who was on way to some place during the same time had intervened and tried to pacify the two.
The MLA agreed that his son had committed a mistake and added that he had also apologised to the policeman. Rai added that a FIR shouldn’t have been lodged as he had already apologised.
