Patna: JDU MLA from Kurtha in Arwal district Satyadev Singh stirred up a controversy when he accused the police of being hand in glove with bootleggers to make a fast buck.

Talking to reporters in Arwal on Saturday, the ruling party legislator said: "Liquor is being sold in the state with the help of police. The police personnel are hell-bent on making prohibition a total failure in the state."

Taking a dig at the soaring crime graph, Singh said had the police been prompt in action against the criminals, their activities would have been contained to a great extent.

To drive home his point, he referred to the daylight murder of a bank manager of Arwal in Jehanabad district last week.

The state came under prohibition in April 2016.

More than 1.29 lakh people have been booked in the state on the charge of violating the prohibition law.
