Patna, Oct. 22: More than 80 students from 12 schools of Bihar and Delhi learnt organic farming during a five-day National Ecological Camp at Tarumitra, an organisation working for protection and conservation of environment.
On the last day of the camp today, students cooked meal from the organic produce.
Students also organised an interactive session today and highlighted the ecological problems in their region. While talking about the poor condition of the Yamuna, Ananya, a Class XI student of St Xavier's High School, Delhi, said the river is being polluted each and every second.
"Many efforts have been done to clean the banks of the Yamuna but with no success," she said.
Seven schools from Bettiah, St Michael's, Delhi Public School, Sacred Heart High School, Albert Einstein School, Khrist Raja School, Ram Krishna Vivekanand Mandir and Asha International School raised the issue of the pathetic condition of the Chandravati river.
Students also interacted with Patna zoo director Nand Kishore and raised questions about wildlife. He also gave a free zoo tour to the students and coordinators of Tarumitra. After a tour to the zoo, students made bonfire and cooked organic khichdi and shared their five-day experience.
"Tarumitra is like a small forest for me and I really like this place. It motivates me to do something for the nature. Whatever I had learned here and I would preach to my classmates and teachers," said Jyotsana, a Class XI student of St Xavier's High School, Delhi.
Devopriya Dutta, the coordinator of Tarumitra, said: "Students were briefed about organic farming through a PowerPoint presentation, they got first-hand experience at paddy fields, composting, weeding."
