Motihari, May 19: The son of a bank manager, who went missing three days ago, safely reached his grandparents’ house in Saharsa district today.
Onkar (17), a student of MS Memorial School, appeared for his Class XII examination in March this year.
He recently went to New Delhi to appear for the All India Engineering Entrance Examination, 2011. On May 16, he left home to meet his friends in Henry Bazaar and did not return.
His father, Ashok Kumar Gupta, said: “I had apprehended that my son had been abducted because the son of another banker was kidnapped for ransom on May 5. In the FIR, I had even referred to my apprehension of my son being kidnapped.”
This is the second incident of a boy going missing in this month. Earlier, Nandan Kumar, son of Uttar Bihar Gramin Bank manager, was abducted on May 5, from his house in Banjariya block, East Champaran. The police rescued him on May 14. Two of Nandan’s friends were arrested for allgedly kidnapping him for ransom.
“The day Onkar went missing and a case of apprehended abduction was lodged. The police were convinced that it was not a case of abduction on the basis of certain facts that came out during investigation,” said a police officer.
Onkar left the house with Rs 2,100 and when the amount was exhausted, he had no option than to come back home, the officer said.
Meanwhile, the Sadar deputy superintendent of police, Sushant Kumar Saroj, has confirmed the safe arrival of Onkar at his grandparents’s residence in Saharsa late last night.
He told The Telegraph: “Onkar’s father informed me that he has arrived in Saharsa.”
“Onkar’s friend who was detained in the case was set free after we received the information from Gupta,” said the station house officer of Chhatauni police station, Vijayendra Kumar Singh.
By the time the good news arrived, the police had already swung into action and had started taking measures for the early and safe recovery of Onkar.
“It was sheer good luck on the part of the boy that instead of any mishappening in the matter, Onkar reached safely his grandparents’ residence at Saharsa safely,” the station house officer added.
