Two minor boys were arrested on Thursday on charges of making an obscene video of a minor girl and then circulating it among friends.
One more accused in the case, also a minor, is evading arrest. Police swung into action after the father of the victim, a resident of Khagaul in west Patna, lodged an FIR with Khagaul police station.
The FIR stated that the three accused had threatened to circulate the video clip if the 16-year-old girl resisted their bid to sexually exploit her. The police said they did exactly that even though the girl succumbed to their threats.
"The victim is a Class X student of a government school. According to information we have received, the girl was in a relationship with a boy, who too is a minor. They had an intimate relationship and on one occasion, the boy made an obscene MMS of the girl at an abandoned quarters belonging to the railways located in the Khagaul area. The girl didn't have a clue about it until her boyfriend went ahead and sent the video clip to two of his friends," an officer at the Khagaul police station told The Telegraph.
The men in uniform said the two boys, in turn, started calling up the girl and threatening her with circulating the video clip if she resisted their move of exploiting her.
"The girl, in her statement, said she was facing the torture for past one-and-a-half months. The boys, however, circulated the MMS among many. The girl was too embarrassed and terrorised to disclose this to her family or the police. The father of the girl, who is a small-time businessman, somehow came to know about the MMS of his daughter. The man checked it himself and lodged an FIR. The police quizzed the girl and managed to nab two of the three boys. These boys are loafers and don't do anything. They are being questioned for more details and also about the whereabouts of their third friend," the officer said.
The cops added that the girl's medical test would be conducted on Friday.
"At present, she is in a state of shock as she has been physically and mentally exploited," another officer said.
The police officer pointed out that raids were being conducted at several places in the area to nab the third accused. "The boys are youngsters but all are into bad company. The third accused would be nabbed soon," the officer added.
A Boring Road resident, who is the mother of two girls, said parents needed to be careful nowadays.
"In today's scenario, we cannot stop our children, including girls, from going out. And if they do go out, they would be making friends and mixing with many from the opposite gender. It is the parents who have to be careful and always keep on talking and communicating with their children. The guardians should know what their children are doing, with whom are they hanging out and other details."
She added: The discussion between the children and parents has to be healthy so that the kids do not hesitate or feel shy in talking about several things with their parents. Communication is a must and parents have to be very careful, especially with girls. However, even people who have sons should remain equally alert, as boys tend to fall into wrong company and pick up bad habits faster. Even in the chain snatching incidents that keep recurring, the criminals are youngsters."
On October 29, 2012, a 22-year-old girl was allegedly raped for over a month by a doctor after he made an MMS clip during a surgery. He had then continuously blackmailed her by threatening to make the pictures public. The girl hailed from the Paliganj area on the city's outskirts.
In July 2012, Patna had witnessed a similar incident.
At that time, a Class XI girl of a city school was lured into a flat in the Rajvanshi Nagar area by her boyfriend and six others. She was then raped. The boys had made an MMS and circulated it later.
The incident had sent shock waves in the city.
The victim had also approached the Bihar State Women's Commission from where it was forwarded to the police. After the cops swung into action, some of the accused were arrested. The victim's boyfriend, along with some others, surrendered in court and was forwarded to a remand home.
The police had then stated that her boyfriend had hatched the plan in a fit of rage and revenge.
The Opposition, at that time, had demanded a CBI probe in to the incident.
