Motihari: A minor girl was raped by an 18-year-old man at Majhariya Shekh village in West Champaran on Tuesday night, in the second such case in the district in the past month.
Randhir Kumar, officer-in-charge of Majhauliya police station, said a case has been registered against the accused. "Raids are on to nab the accused," he said.
He said a case has been registered under sections 376 (rape), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
The rape survivor's family members told police that the accused lived in their neighbourhood and gate-crashed on Tuesday night when the girl was sleeping. The other family members were at a wedding ceremony near the village.
"On returning home, we found the girl in a bad shape," Randhir quoted her family as saying.
The accused, who originally hailed from Jaukatiya, also in Majhauliya police station limits and 5km from Majhariya Shekh, fled after the crime.
The girl was taken to a government hospital in Bettiah for medical examination. "We will record her statement soon," said Randhir.
On June 11, a Class V student was raped by her teacher on a government school premises near Bagaha.
In another incident, a group of villagers caught a man and handed him over to Govindganj police.
The villagers told the police that the man had attempted to rape a woman at her house in Chandi Sthana in Mura panchayat of East Champaran district on Tuesday midnight.
