Authorities in Patna are gearing up to crack down on unauthorised construction of buildings despite the civic body serving notices on them.

A meeting, under the chairmanship of Patna district magistrate N. Saravana Kumar, has been scheduled for August 16. Officials of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC), senior police officers and inspectors of different localities would attend the meet.

PMC commissioner Kuldip Narayan told The Telegraph on Tuesday: “Considering the rising number of cases related to buildings on which notices have been served to stop construction, a meeting has been convened under the chairmanship of Patna district magistrate on August 16. The district administration, police and the civic body would deliberate on co-ordinated efforts to keep a strong vigil and crackdown on such unlawful construction activities.”

Following directives of Patna High Court, the PMC in June and July issued notices to 1,241 buildings for submitting construction-related documents to it, out of which construction was prohibited on 449 buildings. However, owners of 362 buildings did not furnish the documents sought by the civic body, after which the PMC issued fresh orders on August 7 and 8 to the police stations concerned to stop construction activities on such buildings.

“There are several buildings, which are being constructed without the plan and map being approved by the PMC. Several others have simply not turned up yet with the corresponding building approval documents. Thus, orders have been issued to several police stations to stop construction activities (owners of which) have either failed to furnish documents or carried on with construction activities despite a ban,” said Narayan.

Clearing the ambiguity in the identification of buildings that are being constructed in violation of building bye-laws, the PMC has uploaded the detailed reports of all the 449 buildings in the four circles of the civic body, which are under its scanner based on the Patna High Court directives.

The buildings have been categorised under stages — construction, finishing, super structure and foundation — among others.

“We have uploaded the detailed report submitted by the executive officers of different circles on our website. The detailed reports submitted by the registered architects are quite voluminous but we are working on them to upload them on our website very shortly,” said Narayan.
