Motihari: Medical examination of two boys, who were allegedly subjected to physical torture and sexual abuse at a shelter home here, was conducted at a hospital in Bettiah in West Champaran on Thursday.
Physical violence and sexual abuse were reported by the boys of the home during the social audit conducted by Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Tiss), which had also blown the lid off the sexual abuse of minor girls at the Balika Grih shelter in Muzaffarpur.
After the Tiss report all 18 boys, aged between 6 and 18, were shifted to a shelter home in Bettiah called Bal Grih on June 2.
A police team led by sub inspector Shashikala, posted at Chhatauni in Motihar, took the two boys for the medical examinations at MJK Hospital, a government facility in Bettiah, the district headquarters of West Champaran, around 197km north-west of Patna, on Thursday.
"The medical examinations of the two boys have been conducted," a police officer said under cover of anonymity.
K.K. Gupta, superintendent of Bal Grih, Bettiah, also confirmed that the medical examination of the two boys was conducted.
The West Champaran district administration has reunited eight of the boys with their family members.
A majority of them belonged to East Champaran, apart from one who belonged to Nepal and another boy who was from Sikta block of West Champaran.
"Soon after being brought from Motihari, we stepped up action to reunite them with their family members and eight of them could be successfully handed over to their family members," said Mamata Jha, assistant director, child protection, West Champaran.
According to officials, all the 18 boys fell under the Child in Need of Care and Protection category with one them having about 90 per cent of disability.
A seven-year-old boy belonging to a village from Parsa district of Nepal landed at the Motihari boys' home on January 15 this year.
"In two cases, we reunited thne boys with their family members barely 10 days after being brought here," Bettiah home superintendent said, adding efforts were on to reunited the other boys with their families.
