Budding doctors at government colleges of the state would be able to access and download medical journals on their laptops or cellphones from anywhere on the campus.

The health department has decided to make government medical colleges WiFi-enabled. At present, only AIIMS-Patna has a WiFi-enabled campus among state-run institutes. A source said: “Recently, a directive in that regard has been issued to all government medical colleges of the state. Soon all the institutes will float tenders to select the company who will implement the work. The colleges would have to inform us about the expense and the department would provide the funds.”

Though the department’s decision has brought cheers for the students, they seemed unconvinced of the government’s promise. Ali Akhtar, a second-year MBBS student of Patna Medical College, said: “I am happy with the health department’s decision. At the same time, I am sceptical of whether they would be able to fulfil this promise or not.”

Nalanda Medical College third-year student Adwait Akash said: “I think the department would be able to make the campuses WiFi-enabled only after we pass out.”
