Patna, Aug. 12: Victims of ragging seem to be busy concealing their identities than to help bring the culprits to book.

Two days ago, a junior student of BN College under Patna University, was beaten up badly by his seniors on the pretext of ragging. However, the college authorities, till today, had got no clue about the identity of the student or that of his attackers.

The boy came to the college along with his guardian today to lodge a formal complaint against the incident.

But the guardian backed out as soon as he spotted some mediapersons. The college authorities too made no attempt to try and get the details of the student and that of Wednesday’s incident.

BN College principal K.K. Maltiar, who was in his office when the boy turned up, told The Telegraph that the incident had taken place.

“Yes, there was an incident in which a student of the college, a junior, was beaten up by his seniors. He has sustained an injury in one of his eyes. I have called the head of the anti-ragging committee of the college to probe into the incident. At present, he is writing an account of what exactly took place. Based on that, action will be initiated,” he said.

The boy, whose name and whereabouts are unknown, came to the college with an uncle of his. But on seeing some media video cameras, he refused to lodge a complaint and backed out. “He has come to the college just to take a leave. It is the question of the family’s prestige. We will not be making any comment on this. Please don’t bother us,” the middle-aged man said.

With the cameras chasing the duo all along, the man left in a hurry along with the victim on a two-wheeler.

Sources in the college said the boy was a BA Part-I student and some seniors ragged him badly two days ago. “We don’t know the name or the details of the victim till now. We were waiting for him to write us an application, which he later chose to ignore. The matter will be taken up with the vice-chancellor and the police have been informed too,” Maltiar said.

The cops said though they didn’t receive a formal complaint from the college or the victim, the matter will be looked into. “The local Pirbhore police station has been asked to make necessary investigations,” city superintendent of police, Patna Central, Shivdeep Lande said.

“The incident occurred two days back. Today, the boy, along with his guardian, came to register a complaint with the college authorities. But they later refused to do the same on seeing mediapersons,” M.N. Sinha, a senior teacher at BN College, said.
