Patna: Patna will see a traffic blockade - from 6am to 9am - because of the Patna Marathon on Sunday.

Around 4,000 residents have registered to participate in the marathon that is divided into three categories - run for fun (4km), 10km and half marathon (21.2 km).

Patna traffic superintendent of police P.K. Das on Friday convened a meeting with the marathon organiser and decided to block traffic for three hours. As per plan, the half-marathon will be flagged off at 6am, the 10km-run at 6.45am and the run for fun at 7.45am.

"From the beginning to end traffic will be blocked on the western lane, from Gandhi Maidan to Ram Ghulam Chowk to Chajjubagh, Children's park. From Saguna Mor to Hartali Mor on Bailey Road, the northern flank would be functional for to and fro vehicles. But no vehicles will be allowed from Bailey Road to Patna Zoo to Circular Road roundabout," Das said. "Normally, during the President or PM's visit, traffic is blocked for 1-2 hours, but for the first time, traffic will be blocked for 3 hours." Ambulance and emergency services will be allowed to take roads provided by the police.

Flying Sikh Milkha Singh is arriving in Patna on Saturday for the marathon.

"Around 1,500 participants have been given bags and T-shirts," marathon director Dharmendra Kumar said.
